From Peter Dennis

Morocco 1880's

The French Foreign Legion and the Arab Tribes

Composed of a motley crew of outcasts and adventurers from across Europe, the Legion found itself thrust into the heart of Morocco.

Its mission: to extend French influence over this fiercely independent North African kingdom.

But the Legion would soon discover that the Moroccans were far from passive.

Now on the Website, The Moroccan sun beats down on a landscape of rugged mountains and vast, unforgiving plains.

Sharp your scissors! Ready your dice! It is time to lead your Army to Victory!

I suppose this uniform is what we mostly associate with the Legion. Presumably as a result of Beau Geste. List of battles with the FFL.
