Haven't seen this. Looks interesting.
A compilation of detailed photographs, drawings, engravings, and paintings showing the colors, panache, and grandeur of the army of the Second Empire, alongside basic descriptions of the different military units, their functions, and formations. The Army of Napoléon III, Emperor of France from 1852-1870 (and nephew of the famed Emperor Napoléon), was just as involved in the "Gloire" of the French military and Empire as the Grand Armee of Napoléon's Legions.
From campgrounds and battlefields across Algeria, Morocco, The Crimea, China, Mexico, France, Germany, and more, the brave warriors of the French military of the Second Empire were at the forefront of some of the most ferocious conflicts of the mid-late 19th century.
The blue, white, and red of the French “tricolore” flag was reflected in the uniforms of their fighting men and women. Emblazoned with gold, silver, and medals for their gallantry, these soldiers and sailors were documented in photos and artwork of the day. This work showcases and celebrates these timeless veterans of the Second Empire and their cavalier spirit.
Nooooo! I'm supposed to be saving money!
