Dead Zouave at the Malakoff

I recommend the book 'Cadogan's Crimea' based around the Crimean watercolours of the man on the spot - lots of great artwork covering all manner of subjects - a lot of French subjects - not restricted to the British troops at all - some subjects are quite morbid - like this study of a Zouave who has arranged himself gracefully to die - something the French apparently copied from the Arabs.

  1. 'Cadogan's Crimea' is a really good book for Cadogan's watercolors of camp life. Of interest to me is one of the cantinieres marching in ranks in the "file closer" positions.
