I was 8 or 9 when I saw the Charge of the Light Brigade (1968) at the cinema. Made a big impression on me. I had a book of letraset which I found online at action-transfers.com a feast of nostalgia. Was possibly my first military history book.

Those were inspirational books, and very well done. In retrospect i can see that the Waterloo one was one of my key influences (along with the film, of course). I don't think I ever saw the one on the Charge, but I have enjoyed your pictures!

Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis brings back to past. What a great series is was for young boys, and perhaps, girls. Thanks for the reminder

I was too old for these, but at the same sort of age I was given a book of "Soldier Stamps", which were in sticker format. You just had to find the right place for each one and stick it in. They were fairly accurate, colourful and there was just enough text to explain who each one was. I still remember the eighteenth century French Regiment du Roi, gorgeously dressed in white coats, blue facings and golden yellow braid. These are the kind of things that got us going long ago, so we remember them fondly.
