You may not have noticed but the great great great grandson of this illustrious figure passed a comment on this blog (ending of the siege of Paris), and so I thought a post dedicated to the great man was in order. Wiki on the man here.
Famous for his analysis of the situation at Sedan; Nous sommes dans un pot de chambre, et nous y serons emmerdés. (We are in a chamber pot, and we're going to be shit on.). One of the French generals who, during the Franco-Prussian war, history regards as a man of integrity.

ReplyDeleteI find it both touching and exciting that this blog should have attracted the attention of a descendant of such a distinguished French soldier. Wouldn't it be nice if we got a post from 'the other side of the hill', say, from a Von Moltke or a Von Manteuffel.
