No, Gravelotte, or to give it its more usual full name Gravelotte-Saint Privat, was indeed on 18 August, 140 years ago today. There had been another battle two days earlier, on 16 August, at the nearby village of Rezonville. Confusingly, the 16 August battle is sometimes also referred to as Vionville-Mars la Tour.
