The best bits of any World War One video to me is the early war footage or even better pre war manouevres - it all looks jolly fun as everyone marches off with a spring in their step unaware of the attrition and horror that awaits them. This sequence has some of that type of material - ok its colourised but I think it's worth a watch - maybe with the sound down.

ReplyDeleteThat's my issue with the comedy "Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines." The 1910 pilot characters are doomed.
Yesterday, I saw the Movie " Flyboys" on DVD. A great one about a squadron of American volunteers serving in French air force during WW1. For a view on the opposite side, see the "Red Baron", also a very good action film, although the air combat scenes are better in "Flyboys". Both films are recent and make use of the latest special effects technology. Impressive !
