  1. A interesting picture which I have not seen before. The Zouaves and Chasseurs here are members of the Imperial Guard. So far as the Zouaves are concerned, you can tell this from the yellow lace on their jackets, whereas the Guard Chasseurs had shorter jackets and baggier trousers than their line equivalents.

  2. I wondered about this painting before; it cannot represent a Crimean event as the chasseur à pied de la garde only got the yellow lace in 1860 !
