Not really a military film but it does contain scenes of the French army in the strike so I figured I ought to put it in. My ancestors were miners and I always enjoy movies on this subject and this is one of the best if not the best. Cost a lot of money and it was used as a way of boosting oppportunities in the depressed area where it was filmed. Imdb

Thanks for posting this trailer Ralph. No gaiters on the French troops. Trousers not tucked into the boots. Maybe they made a mistake or the costumer thought it looked silly to modern eyes.
ReplyDeleteThere are times in history when people see national troops not as "our boys" but as the enemy. Lexington and Concord in 1775. My grandfather was in a National Guard unit in WW One and was called out during the Boston Police Strike in 1919. Fortunately is was to keep order and not fire on people.
I'm joking but it seems that they can't make a movie in France without Gerard Depardieu.
