The Monocled Mutineer (1986) Episode 1 Part 1

Series from the BBC on the Great War mutineer and officer impersonator Percy Topliss. All parts are up but for how long? How much of it is true is disputed, and no one will know until 2017 whether he took part in the Etaples Mutiny as in this film though it's reckoned he was probably in India at the time. In any case Topliss is a legendary character, and this is a masterful treatment. It caused quite a fuss at the time with MPs complaining about a left wing bias at the BBC in its treaetment. Not for everyone then I suppose but I certainly enjoyed this unusual look at the First World War and its look at the whole subject of class in Britain.
