1866 and all that

I've been thinking that 1866 might be an interesting date to set a club wargame - certainly there are plenty of armies around to choose from - here's a list off the top of my head - though I am sure there are more:
Austro-Hungarian
Prussian
Bavarian
Hannover
Sardinia
Danish 1864
Garibaldist
French
Saxon
Maybe Crimean British and Russian
American civil war could be included if you wanted to open it out and also Mexican Republican and Maximilian Imperialist. You might think it far-fetched but most of these armies were in combat around this time, so it's not too much of a fantasy.

  2. Came upon this delightful blog via TMP and happy to say this is my naughty secret - the Wars of the mid and late 19th Cent., namely Austro-Prussia War, Russo-Turkish War, the Franco-Prussia war, the Triple Alliance and the wars in Mexico! Saved this blog as a favourite. (I have a series of boardgames for this era from S&T - great games especially for carrying out campaigns then refighting battles on the table top)
