Major Dundee (1965) fight with French cavalry

This movie by Peckinpah covers the French intervention in Mexico in fine style. For Hollywood that is. Of course it's a fantasy but what the hell? - it's Friday! This sequence pits the US force against French lancers and possibly the Chasseurs d'Afrique - blink and you'll miss them. Us Europeans probably scoff at the idea of American cavalry decimating French regulars like this with Von Moltke comparing Union troops to an 'armed mob' but it's only a movie. And I'm only kidding American readers!

  1. Great Scene. There's some Turco Infantry in an earlier scene. You'll notice in the Bugler Timothy Ryan narration at the end he says "French Irregulars."
